State biologists forecast a strong but not exceptional 2026 Bristol Bay sockeye run

8+ hour, 58+ min ago (345+ words) Fishery biologists expect another strong year for sockeye salmon in southwestern Alaska's Bristol Bay region, site of the world's largest runs of the fish, also known as red salmon. Next year's run is not expected to equal the magnitude of the huge runs in some recent record-breaking and near-record years, however, according to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game's preseason forecast. The forecast, released earlier this month, predicts a return of 45.32 million Bristol Bay sockeye salmon next year, enough to support a harvest of 33.5 million fish. This year's Bristol Bay run totaled 56.7 million fish, and the harvest totaled 41.2 million fish. The record highs were set in 2022, when a run of 79 million sockeye salmon supported a harvest of just over 60 million fish. If the 2026 forecast proves to be accurate, that would place next year's Bristol Bay sockeye run below the…...

Connecticut Sun Must Improve One Key Metric to be Competitive in 2026

11+ hour, 30+ min ago (347+ words) The Connecticut Sun went into somewhat of a rebuild phase throughout the 2025 season, with much of their roster being tailored towards younger players and ensuring they had the opportunity to develop and get accustomed to the WNBA level. With that said, the record they put out is certainly something they will be looking to improve upon in 2026. With two first-round picks, they are able to make some more additions to the roster that should help out with the depth of the squad. To do so, they will need to analyze what the team needs, and in 2025, it became abundantly clear what the franchise needed heading into their next campaign. The biggest struggle for the Sun compared to the other teams in the WNBA was their 3-point shooting, as in the year they ended up with only a 30.2% rate on 3-point…...

Connecticut Attorney General Tong claims ‘complete victory’ over ExxonMobil

11+ hour, 44+ min ago (499+ words) HARTFORD, Conn. " The state of Connecticut secured a "complete victory" over ExxonMobil earlier this week, according to Attorney General William Tong. On Wednesday in Hartford, Connecticut Superior Court Judge John Farley fully denied ExxonMobil's motion to strike the state's case against the company for its alleged lies about the negative environmental impacts of its products. A release from Tong's office claims that the state brought ExxonMobil to court because of its "decades of deceit regarding climate change." Court documents show that the state specifically alleges that ExxonMobil used unfair and deceptive trade practices associated with its sale and marketing of fossil fuel products in Connecticut. State prosecutors say that ExxonMobil violated the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act by engaging in a "systematic campaign of deception" for decades regarding the impact of its fossil fuel products on the earth's climate. I've spent weeks, months, and even years eating my way through Connecticut, and these underrated restaurants deserve way more love than they get. Tucked into Olde Mistick Village, Trattoria Amalfi looks like just another village restaurant until you sit down and realize it's one of the country's top-rated hidden spots on TripAdvisor. Handmade pastas, coastal Italian seafood, and a relaxed dining room make it feel like a seaside trattoria someone forgot to tell the tourists about. Open daily for lunch and dinner, it's…...
